Presidents letter – August, 2024
The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of coursing events, ASFA Regionals and planning for the 2024 International Invitational in Iowa. Yes, we are back at the balloon field in Indianola Iowa on October 5th and 6th. The premium is up on the website and I would encourage you to enter early. We have several regions that have scheduled their Regional Invitationals and some that have not done so as of yet. Please consider hosting your regional invitational. The ASFA provides the ribbons and medallions. It is a win-win for the organization. We have a couple of new clubs this year and one has applied to host their regional invitational in Region 4. I think that is fantastic.
In my last letter, I encouraged people to participate in the running of ASFA. As you all know, ASFA is a volunteer organization and is made great through those volunteers. Our committees are active in reviewing current policies and running rules to make sure they are current and appropriate. If you have input into the process you can reach out to your Regional Director or the committee chairs themselves. There are processes involved to make necessary changes; you can familiarize yourself with the constitution to learn more.
We have been making progress on the new records program while keeping the existing program operational. There are number of manual processes that Lori goes through to complete the records of the events you host. Please use the “Records 101” guide to help you complete the trial records for submission. If in doubt, please reach out to Lori, she is very helpful. I hope to have great news as we come towards the end of the year regarding ASFA’s records program.
As the summer begins to wane and coursing begins to pick back up please remember, we are all here to see our dogs do what they do best (no not make us humble) but run for the sake of the pursuit of the “bunny”. We strive to the betterment of lure coursing for all hounds…please remember that as you participate in this wonderful sport.
